The existing bridge Florence Avenue Bridge carries 4 lanes of traffic. It is
a 218-ft long cast-in-place concrete built in 1953 and widened using PC/
PS structure. It is supported on 3 concrete piers walls. The existing deck
has significant deterioration. Schwab Engineering has provided assistance to The City of Downey in advanced planning and preparation of Highway Bridge
Program (HBP) Funding assistance and estimates for the structural
improvements. Schwab Engineering performed field investigation and condition
assessment of the existing bridge and provided justification for the
replacements of the original superstructure leaving the substructure
and foundation intact. The proposed superstructure replacement will
be PC/PS construction compatible with the widening section, and
eliminating longitudinal joints.
